José de Groot
José specialises in teaching Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Trainings, and has been doing so since 2007. Her passion for teaching functional, intelligent and holistic yoga is fueled by her own continued study and practice in functional anatomy, Yin and Yang yoga, Chinese medicine, philosophy, psychology, and her own personal growth. She has taught over 4500 public yoga classes, and facilitated 30 Yoga Teacher Trainings across Europe.
Functional anatomy for safe, non-injurious yoga
Driven by her understanding of skeletal variation, as taught by Paul Grilley, José integrates functional anatomy in all her teachings to inspire yogis to adapt their Yin & Yang yoga practice to suit their bodies, in order for it to be beneficial, safe and non-injurious.
Holistic teachings
In her classes, workshops, retreats and trainings, José blends yoga, meditation, pranayama, philosophy, psychology and Chinese medicine. Her in-depth knowledge and open-minded, personalised way of teaching gives you the opportunity to experience and explore all that you are to the fullest.
A committed student of Yin yoga
José is a committed student of Yin yoga pioneer, Paul Grilley, and is among the first generation of Yoga teachers to be trained by him. Having completed several of his Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings (550hYA), José has been given Paul's teaching material so that she may pass on his Yin yoga teachings. José has also studied with Sarah Powers and T.K.V. Desikachar.
"The 50-hour training was very good. I chose it specifically because I wanted to go a lot deeper into anatomy. José's methods are very inspiring. Combining theory and practical application made aspects that are more complex clearer, easier to grasp, and a lot more accessible."
"This training was a great experience. I'm a Vinyasa teacher who has now developed an interest in Yin. This course provides the key foundation from which to build up, starting with the bones, muscles, ligaments and fascia, and gradually unfolding into a pose. It's given me renewed energy for my own practice and for moving into teaching Yin."
"I found it very interesting to see that not one pose is the same for every person, that everyone has a different variation that will lead them all to feeling the same target area. José is a very good teacher. Her demonstrations and getting us all to practice ourselves was very useful. Realising that everyone is different and unique and how to accommodate that when teaching is the main lesson I've taken with me from this training."
